About The Artist
Background
Angel ButterFly is a local artist in the Tampa Bay area. She's been in love with art since she was able to hold a crayon as a child. This love for art grew once she was introduced to a paint brush. As a child Angel was very mischievous and always decorating things, marking up wall and creating chalk murals in her driveway. Heading into high school, she was introduced to graffiti art and was inspired by the abstract style.
As an adult Angel received a small oil paint kit as a gift from a friend. She was never formally trained in art theory and considers herself a self-taught artist. Angel started on a journey learning about oil paints and artists. When she felt confident in using the paints, her magical art journey in oils began!
Art Medium
Angel’s preferred medium is oil paint on canvas. There's something about the flow and versatility of oil paint that blends well with her abstract style. Oil paint allows her to express creativity with its unique qualities; offering a rich and diverse range of techniques and possibilities. It enables Angel to capture the essence of her subjects, evoke emotions, and bring the artistic vision to life on the canvas.
The Artist's Inspiration
This artist is inspired by so many things and experiences. Through her learning journey she became captivated by famous artists Vincent Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Salvador Dali. Diving deep in their paint styles, she fell in love with the artists’ stories and background. Angel found similarities to her own life in each artist and uses that in her artwork today. Van Gogh’s colors are eye catching to draw in your attention; his brush strokes were confident and bold. Frida’s spirit to overcome so many physical ailments is inspirational. Frida displayed her life story and emotions on the canvas for the world to see. Diego Rivera’s art is politically charged and was seen as controversial, yet it was heart felt and telling of the times. Dali’s visual play on dimensions is mind bending. Angel has taken little pieces from each artist to create a unique paint style of her own.
While viewing Angel’s artwork you will notice an interesting theme of dream symbolism. The human subconscious is something that has always fascinated the artist. Dreams are the mind’s way of visualizing the thoughts and feelings in the subconscious. There are meanings attached to most elements within our dreams and Angel uses symbolism of dreams within her artwork. They images are beautiful…sometimes confusing, but they all bring a hidden meaning to the paintings. The artwork of Angel ButterFly is very unique and each painting is a visual journey for her viewers.
