The piece is in celebration of the Black woman. A little dark skinned black girl told me she wished her skin was lighter. The little girl was teased at school because of the darkness of her skin. I explained to her I shared a similar experience when I was a child her age. I love my dark skin.
We come in so many hues and all should be loved adored. I mixed various colors to create the black color for this painting; showing we are complex. The woman is black and gorgeous as she lies over the sun allowing others to bask in the glow of her blackness.
